Fire door inspection checklist (UK)

Door reference and location confirmed against the label *

Certification label or plug present (top or hinge edge) *

No evidence the door is a certified fire door is itself a finding.

Photo of the certification label

Gap between door and frame consistent, typically 2 to 4 mm at head and sides *

Check the manufacturer's specification for the exact tolerance.

Threshold gap within specification (typically up to 8 mm, less with a smoke seal) *

Intumescent strips and cold smoke seals continuous, undamaged and not painted over *

Leaf free of damage, warping, holes or unfilled fixings *

Frame secure and undamaged, no gaps to the wall *

Glazing intact, fire-rated and beading secure

Mark not applicable if the door has no vision panel.

Hinges: at least three, CE or UKCA marked, all screws present and tight, no leaking oil *

Self-closing device closes the door fully into the frame from any angle, including from 75 mm open *

Latch engages and holds the door closed *

Hold-open devices, if fitted, release on the alarm

Correct signage fitted (Fire door keep shut / keep locked / automatic fire door keep clear) *

Door not wedged or propped open, no obstructions on either side *
